L'Ultimo Terrestre

Directed by Gipi Fandango, Venice Film Festival 2011.
Soundtrack for the film “L'Ultimo Terrestre” (Fandango) directed by Gian Alfonso Pacinotti, competing at Venice Film Festival 2011. The work is the fruit of the creative collaboration between me and Gianni; we shared ideas, intuitions and we worked on it for 3 weeks, just to create the right sounds for the images; some times we help the scenes using sounds like backdrop, and other times we really give a new point of view so that the music really becomes a character. Solo piano pieces (Preludio in E), female choirs (La Rivelazione), electronic beat (La Corsa, Un Mostro) and psychedelic soundscape (Discesa agli inferi).

Good Morning Aman

Directed by Claudio Noce Produced by Valerio Mastandrea, Venice Film Festival 2009.
Soundtrack for the film Good Morning Aman by Claudio Noce (Venice Film Festival 2009). I wrote the first song "Good Morning Aman" (a kind of dreaming ballade) reading the screenplay; I saw the desert and a lonely man walking slowly, with no rush, heading nowhere, but knowing exactly where to go. It was my first and more powerful contact with the story. My meeting with the character of Aman: a thin, funny Ethiopian boy living a city like Rome without really understanding it. He lives a kind of paradox; he's really cynical, but at the end he's a dreamer. He will truly understand his nature just after the meeting with the "bad" caracter interpreted by Valerio Mastandrea; a sad and retired boxer spending all days at home watching tv. I chose to use two different languages to tell the story from my point of view; songs and concrete\electronic music. The work done with the songs was really exciting for me. Claudio, the director, told me that he wanted some old blues stuff in the soundtrack, so I had the chance to explore languages like the old preaching blues from 30's and 40's, and collaborating with my friend and amazing poet Michael Reynolds and the powerful singer Charlie Cannon (That note don't play, Bony Man). The Album contains lots of bonus track; I love the song "Here we are" and "Good Mornign Aman"; because I really don't know where they came from... It's just magic.

Sotto Casa

Directed by Alessio Lauria Premio Solinas 2011.
Short movie directed by A. Lauria (Talenti in corto, premio Solinas 2011). A surreal situation of a typical nightmare for the citizens of Rome: parking. I wrote for the beginning a sort of pathetic\melodramatic music to emphasize the grotesque situation, while for the end I chose the instrumental version of the funny song "Tiny Places Mr. Happy remix" (which is a track of my album Liu')... I don't know what happened, but the song is played at double speed... someone did something wrong during the audio conversion? ...who?.... I don't know but it works, And I like it a lot. It's the funniest thing...

La Pagella

Directed by Alessandro Celli Intesa San Paolo, Online Contest di Cannes 2010.

Adil e Yusuf

Directed by Claudio Noce Venice Film Festival 2008.
Short movie directed by C. Noce, (in competition at 2007 Venice Film Festival). It is the story of two brothers from Somalia, living Rome with diverse point of view of the world of work. It's a heavy action of accusation of the exploitation of immigration. Claudio, the director, really wanted to use some strong classical pieces, so we decided to use the second part of "Crux", a chamber suite I wrote before for another project. But the most interesting thing, from my point of view is the last song, the one that carries the audience from the final part to the end titles. We have these dreaming and suspended scenes; we don't know what will really happen. Only the spectators have the key, and each one has it his way. But I wanted to suggest mine.... so I improvised and recorded something, then I slowed it a lot, and played with the sounds of the sea waves that a friend of mine recorded in New Zeland. I love it...

Aria

Directed by Claudio Noce David di Donatello 2005.
Short movie directed by Claudio Noce, winner of the "David di Donatello" in 2005. It's the hard story of a boy who wants to grow and be a man in the ghetto of Tor Bella Monaca in Rome. I just wrote the last track of the movie. The director and me tried with some chamber music and electronics, but it didn't work. So I suggested a long solo piano song; I recorded seven times while watching the scenes. The seventh was the good one...
